{UAH} KIND ADVICE TO ALL AFRICAN GOVERNMENTS.
KIND ADVICE TO ALL AFRICAN GOVERNMENTS.
Protect the African Farmer in order to employ the unemployed majority youth!
================================================
To cub the hyper unemployment suffered by most countries on the continent that has seen many of their youth leave the continent for green pastures in mostly Europe and other countries, the Farmer must be protected!
Almost all African economies have one thing in common, and that is they rely heavily on the Agricultural sector. Agriculture accounts for more than 60% of their annual GDP unfortunately, agriculture remains the most underfunded projects on the continent.
With its poor state, it employs the biggest percentages in every country and still has the potential to employ triple! In all this, the farmer is left to weather the storm completely alone!
Right from the buying of seedlings (fake seeds), subsistence farming practices due to ignorance and poverty (no mechanization), poor harvest, storage facilities in cases of over production (no regional silos), poor mechanization hence affecting product quality and quantity and lastly an unregulated market (limited and an open market).
An unregulated market leaves the farmer in pure poverty however much he tries hard to farm; when retailers or traders start buying directly from the farmer and even book and buy products in gardens before they reach full maturity, opens doors for farmers to be exploited due to a drastically reduced ability to favorably bargain for better prices of their products.
In the most developed countries, it's the farmers who are the richest and you won't find them not protect by their respective governments, they have cooperatives and that's how they have managed to mechanize and easily receive better money and services accorded to them.
Some African Governments urge that controlling wealthy and well to do persons is hard stuff and therefore frustrate efforts of farmers gaining from Agricultural practices by turning a blind eye to the sector as it wallows in decay!
Africa has the youngest population in the whole world unfortunately, they have not been fully integrated into agriculture the biggest employer! Those that work in family farms are not paid! This should change to include all family members into fairly and equally sharing of the farm dividends to avoid members seeking employment elsewhere.
Instead of the average farmer being at 60 years, youths who are the majority and energetic should be availed land for agriculture as early as possible. They shouldn't wait for land after elders have passed on. As soon as the clock 18 years, they should be awarded their own farms to manage.
some African governments preside over the destruction of the environments of their respective countries by weakening environmental protection bodies, subconsciously or consciously allowing settlements in forests and wetlands, awarding charcoal burning activities in forests.
Tropical forests are water and rainfall catchment areas hence the environment has to be protected If Agriculture is to stay for forever.
once a tropical rain forest has been destroyed, not other forest planted can equate to the previous on in importance!
It is wrong for traders to buy directly from farmers since they will always cheat them, let cooperatives do the bargaining, provision of better seeds and farming methods in doing this, we shall have employed our biggest populations and saved governments being strained and our people making dangerous journeys in pursuit of employment and happiness elsewhere!
