BUGANDA SHOULD LEARN FROM KIKUYU AND ACHOLI
Council of Elders of sons of Gikuyu and Mumbi have visited the Kabaka
of sons of Kintu and Nambi, in order to learn from them.
This is not new. According to a former Attorney General of the Kingdom
of Buganda and Republic of Uganda Godfrey Lule, one time in mid
seventies, there was a meeting of Attorneys General of East Africa
Community member states in Nairobi Kenya. When the then powerful Kenya
Attorney General Charles Njonjo got a chance of talking to Lule, he
said that " l studied at Kings College budo and l admired Buganda
kingdom with its Kabaka, officials, chiefs, etc....But how have you
become so low to accept to be ruled by Idi Amin!" Lule seemed had no
answer.
But now the Council of Elders of Kikuyu were in Uganda. Back home,
they dominate Central Province with their cousins, Meru and Embu, and
even Nairobi province, as a political capital, witch belonged to
Masaii before their Laibon, Lenana sold it to the British, is also
synonymous with Kikuyu.
Right from Mau Mau days and even before, Kikuyu has led and dominated
Kenya's national politics and has produced three presidents not
ceremonials like Sir Edward Muteesa, or caretakers like Yusuf lule,
Godfrey Binaisa and Paulo Muwanga, but effective presidents in names
of Jomo Kenyatta, Mwai Kibaki and Uhuru Kenyatta.
At one time, Prof. Mahmud Mamdani woandered why the England dominates
United Kingdom , Prussia led to reunification of Germany, Piedmont to
reunification of Italy, Kikuyu in Kenya and not Buganda and Baganda in
Uganda.
Right now, Buganda lacks national leaders to levels of the late IK
Musaazi, Abu Mayanja, Jolly Joe Kiwanuka, Godfrey Binaisa, Paulo
Muwanga, Samson Kisekka, Gilbert Bukenya who were potential
presidents.
So, in my view, it is more for Bganda to learn from Kikuyu than vice versa.
Secondly, since the beginning of this year, Acholi Palriamentary Group
led by Deputy Speaker Jacob Oulanyah, have fought tooth and nail to
ensure that money is found for catering for victims of Nodding
Syndrome in Northern Uganda and parliament has passed a 1.3 billion
supplemenyary budget.
Can't Buganda Parliamentary Caucus admire, imitate and copy the
Acholi caucus? Is the present Buganda caucus, compared to previous
caucuses under Besuel Mulondo, Kintu Musoke, Rose Namayanja?
All this and many others will feature, God willing, in Omulongooti
program on Radio Sapientia this evening, from 7.00 to 09.00 pm, where
l am one of the panel. Stay tuned.
