PRO-TRUMP NAIL MANUFACTURING EXEC BLAMES DONALD FOR MASS LAYOFFS, BEGS DEMOCRATS FOR HELP
An executive at the largest nail manufacturer in the country who voted for President Donald Trump is appealing to Democrats for help after the president's tariffs forced him to lay off hundreds of workers.
George Skarich, the vice president of sales at Mid Continent Nail Corporation, told The New York Times that Trump's tariffs threaten to soon put the company out of business.
"He ran on 'Make America Great Again,' and the point was to defend and protect jobs in the United States," Skarich told the Times. "Now here is an action he decides to take that has the potential to cost 500 U.S. citizens their jobs."
Skarich said the company has lost half of its business amid stiff competition from cheaper foreign manufacturers and already had to cut 60 jobs. The company might lay off another 200 in the coming weeks.
Skarich blamed Trump for the layoffs and said he is appealing to Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-MO) for help.
