Pierre Poilievre Asks Mexico and U.S. to Stop Using Trudeau "like a Doormat"

In a tweet earlier today, Conservative MP for Ottawa – Carleton, Pierre Poilievre implied that NAFTA talks are an opportunity for Liberals and Conservatives to come together.

During a strange moment of sympathy for Justin Trudeau, Mr. Poilievre said "Conservatives call on Mexico & the US to stop walking all over our Prime Minister like a doormat".

Although the Conservative Party of Canada has been some of the harshest critics for the sitting Liberal government, it seems that NAFTA has bridged some common ground between the two parties.

Both the Liberal and Conservative parties are in agreement with where NAFTA trade talks should be headed: towards a better deal for Canadians all around. Opposition Leader, Andrew Scheer and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau have both expressed that the issue of Supply Management are non-negotiable.

However, up to now, the Conservative leader has expressed dissatisfaction with how the PM has handled trade talks with Canada's largest trading partner, saying in a tweet from August 28th that "he has left Canada out in the cold and put thousands of jobs at risk."

The Ottawa MP 's comments come at a time where Canada's Minister for Foreign Affairs Chrystia Freeland is engaging in a marathon meeting with U.S. trade ambassadors. Earlier this afternoon, Freeland was notably late to a negotiation in Washington D.C., according to a tweet by journalist Edward Lawrence.

Negotiations between the two nations are set to continue for the rest of the week. President Donald Trump has given a deadline for negotiators to arrive at a conclusion by this Friday.
