- Gen Kale Kayihura was granted bail on August 28
- One of Gen Kayihura's lawyers confirmed that he would be in court on October 1
Former Inspector General of the Uganda police Kale Kayihura Tuesday failed to appear before a military court for the mention of his cases.
The embattled army general last week appeared before a seven-man military court chaired by Lt. Gen Andrew Gutti after close to 70 days in detention. He was charged with two counts of failure to protect war material and abetting kidnappings and repatriation of Rwandan refugees.
Poor health
The mention of his case was adjourned to Tuesday.
He was subsequently granted bail on August 28, basing on his old age and poor health, with terms requiring him to report to court every first Monday of the month and not to leave the central districts of Wakiso and the capital Kampala.
On Monday, however, Gen Kayihura's lawyers reportedly made a plea to the General Court Martial head to grant him permission to travel to Nairobi for specialised treatment.
Was sighted
One of Gen Kayihura's lawyers confirmed to reporters that his client would be in court on October 1.
Gen Kayihura was sighted at the same court on Monday, in apparent fulfilment of a condition of his bail.
