A HERO SAS soldier killed at least 30 ISIS fanatics with an automatic grenade launcher as the jihadis made a desperate final stand in Syria, according to reports.

The explosive battle is said to have taken place earlier this month after the elite British force pushed the terrorists into a small pocket of the besieged town Baghouz.

As years of fierce fighting come to an end remaining ISIS soldiers have vowed to fight to the death, with many SAS troops and allied Kurdish fighters engaging them in hand-to-had combat.

Jihadi militants have repeatedly been given the chance to surrender but most have refused, preferring to die as "martyrs".

The grenade battle began when SAS soldiers from the regiment's D Squadron came under fire from an ISIS stronghold inside a former bank, the Daily Star reports.

After the SAS and Kurdish fighters came under attack, one SAS trooper opened fire with the grenade launcher to allow other members of the patrol to get into cover.

One Brit was wounded by a ricocheting bullet before another opened fire on the fanatics with grenade machine gun which was mounted on a modified Army Landrover.

With a range of 2000m and the ability to offload 350 high explosive rounds a minute, the weapon is a favourite of the the SAS.

At least six grenades were fired directly into the building, wiping out several fighters in one bombardment burst.

The SAS man kept hammering the battle damaged building with grenades until it eventually collapsed.

A source reportedly told the paper: "After the SAS and Kurdish fighters came under attack, one SAS trooper opened fire with the grenade launcher to allow other members of the patrol to get into cover."

"When Kurdish troops returned a few days later they discovered at least 30 bodies inside the shattered building – all were IS fighters and most had died from shrapnel wounds from the grenades fired into the building.

"The automatic grenade launcher is a real force multiplier. It allows troops to lay down a massive amount of fire-power very quickly."
