Dear George,

In just a few weeks time, Donald Trump will be arriving in Britain for a state visit. [1] He's backed torture, refused shelter to refugees and denied climate change exists. [2] Yet the UK will be pulling out all the stops for him - including a visit to Portsmouth for a ceremony to commemorate D-Day. [3]

38 Degrees member Simon, who's from Portsmouth, thinks it's an insult to those who died fighting fascism that Trump, who's done so much to encourage fascists and the far right, has been invited to the ceremony. [4] So he's set up a 38 Degrees petition to cancel the invitation.

Whether or not we win this time, it's important we show Donald Trump what we stand for as a country. Our experience fighting fascism in the past means we know all too well what happens when good people stay silent.

If thousands of us sign Simon's petition, we can show Donald Trump exactly what we, together stand for: stopping racism and hatred, supporting equality for women, and taking decisive action to stop climate change.

Together, we can show Donald Trump that his views are on the wrong side of history. So George, can you add your name now?

38 Degrees-ers believe in talking to people we don't agree with. But Donald Trump's using the world stage to threaten the values that we hold dear. He's supported privatising the NHS, is destroying abortion rights, and even retweeted messages from Britain First - a far-right group in the UK that spreads hatred and violence. [5]

Donald Trump gets away with spreading his hateful views because the world gives him a platform to do it. It's up to us to show him that those views are not welcome here - especially at a ceremony remembering those who put their lives on the line to defend equality and democracy.

Together, we can show Trump that we won't allow the politics of fear and division to divide us. Will you sign the petition now?

Thanks for being involved,

David, Maggie, Rachel, Ryan and the 38 Degrees team
