{UAH} There are No Jobs in Uganda - while
Mwami Mulindwa
The development journey in Uganda is going to be long.
Virtually all powerful people in NRM and notice NRM has own ideas and
agenda about what developing Uganda should be - i.e. every farmer
should become a commercial farmer!
Local Governments are not an issue.
Currently a selected group is given money to make furniture, saloons,
fabrication etc., in an expanded Operation Wealth Creation. These
items have to be sold somewhere, and people should have some money in
their pockets.
In Nakaseke the same program was implemented and people produced maize
and a lot of it prices collapsed from the imagined 700 shs per kilo to
150 -200 shs yet poor Nakaseke people had borrowed money!
It matters less if there is a market or not. When in Nakaseke in
1970's we used to have bumper crop of cotton and coffee we sold to
district growers who paid us promptly. They could store or sell to
Uganda foods and beverages that had stores across the country.
Allan has written about this.
If you talk about developing towns as a precursor to increased income
- well that is none starter to NRM. Towns for what they are, are not
specifically significant, where all NRM people can become commercial
farmers?
I have written - farming will not develop many Ugandans - Kigezi would
be filthy rich.
But trade when one gets a daily income can help the natives out.
In fact Beti Kamya promised in these forums that when Uganda is
federated under her Federal Alliance then we can build our towns - now
she is a Hon. Minister of one of Uganda's Local Government.
