Isingiro. Two brothers in Birere Sub County in Insingiro District are said to have killed their father over land.
Mr Tuwangye Karoli, 64, was hacked to death on Tuesday night by two of his sons and his body left lying in a pool of blood. The incident happened in Butenga cell, Koshuro Parish in Isingiro North County.
Mr Asaph Sabit, the LCI chairperson of Butenga village on confirming the incident said the deceased had a few days ago reported to him that two of his sons wanted to kill him because of the 4.5 hectare banana plantation he wanted to sell.
"Mr Tuwangye was a good citizen in this area but I was shocked when they called me that there was an accident in my village and when I reached at Tuwangye's home he was lying down in a pool of blood dead,'' Mr Sabit said
"The cause of this man's death was his land. When his wife died in May 2019, he gave all his children a portion of his land but he wanted to sell part of his remaining land to a neighbor. He had reported to me on Sunday that his sons wanted to kill him and he was scared of their behavior and this issue has been in the family for about three months,'' he added.
The fateful night
Mr Swaib Konde, a younger son to the deceased who was staying with him, said his brothers came home on the fateful day at about 6pm looking for their father, claiming that they wanted to pay him Shs2m for the land he wanted to sell.
"I told them that he had gone to the nearby trading center, they gave me a motorcycle to go and pick him. At around 7pm, they told me to take away the domestic worker from home since they wanted to pay my father and they gave me Shs20,000 to use at the trading center,'' Swaib said.
He added, "When we came back, the domestic worker was too drunk and slept off, but before my wife served supper, the same domestic worker knocked at our door and informed us that my father had been cut and he was in a pool of blood in my brothers' house where he had been dragged.''
Dr Christopher Mande, a private doctor in Isingiro town council who carried out a postmortem said the deceased had two deep cuts at the back of his head towards the left side which caused loss of blood resulting into death.
"The deceased had two deep cut wounds which had gone too deep into the skull about 1.5 inches which I think was due to a sharp object they could have used causing severe blood loss,'' Dr Mande said.
Rwizi region police spokesperson Samson Kasasira confirmed the incident saying they have already kicked off with the investigations, adding that one of the suspects is already in their custody at Kaberebere Police Station as they continue searching for the second who is on the run.
