DID YOU KNOW THAT POSSESSIVENESS IS A FORM OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE?
Dear Ladies, while it may be flattering for some of you, when your partner acts angry because you smiled at another man, or said you are meeting some friends for lunch, this is not part of the romance cycle. This could possibly be domestic violence.
Domestic violence does not only mean that your partner has beaten or slapped you. Indeed, it can even be when you are denied access to necessities like clothes, food, and things you need. However, we want to talk about something even more serious.
For some people, this can go as far as a partner tapping phone calls, checking messages, or even locking the house because you may be going out for meetings or dates. This is not a "lovesick" partner – this is a person who is committing domestic violence against you.
WHAT CAN YOU DO ABOUT IT?
You can ask Magistrate Court for an order to stop that person from contacting you, depriving you of what is yours, or invading your privacy or even physically, sexually, emotionally abusing you. This is called a protection order.
