Trump’s job performance rating climbs despite impeachment hearings in the House

President Trump’s job performance rating ticked up during the weeks of impeachment hearings in the House, a new poll released Sunday shows.

It also found that the debate in the House Judiciary and Intelligence committees has barely moved the needle among voters on impeachment.

Trump’s job performance approval rating climbed to 45 percent in the Fox News Poll – an increase of 3 percentage points from the same survey taken in October.

Fifty-three percent of respondents disapprove of his job performance in the latest survey, compared to 57 percent in October.

On the question of whether Trump should be impeached and removed from office, 50 percent opted for impeach and remove, 4 percent agreed he should be impeached but not removed and 41 percent said he should not be impeached.

Trump took issue with the poll’s findings on Sunday afternoon, suggesting Fox News find a “new pollster.”

“The @foxnewPolls, always inaccurate, are heavily weighted toward Dems. So ridiculous – same thing happened in 2016. They got it all wrong. Get a new pollster!,” Trump said in the first tweet.

“Approval Rating in Republican Party = 95%, a Record! Overall Approval Rating = 51%. Think of where I’d be without the never ending, 24 hour a day, phony Witch Hunt, that started 3 years ago!,” he added in a second posting.

In the survey, 85 percent of Republicans approved of his job performance, while 13 percent disapproved.

Among Democrats, 89 percent disapproved of how he did his job, while 11 percent approved.

In October, 49 percent went with impeach and remove, 4 percent said impeach but not remove and 41 percent said Trump should not be impeached.

The House Judiciary Committee voted 23-17 – along partisan lines – last Friday to approve two articles of impeachment for abuse of power and obstruction of Congress over Trump’s dealings with Ukraine.

In the poll, 53 percent said he abused the power of his office, while 38 percent disagreed.

Forty-eight percent said he obstructed Congress, but 34 percent said he did not.

Asked whether Trump paused military aid to Ukraine to pressure the country’s leader to investigate former Vice President Joe Biden, 47 percent said he did, 29 percent said no and 24 percent didn’t know.

Sixty percent said it wasn’t “appropriate” for Trump to hold up the aid, while 24 percent said it was “appropriate” and 16 percent didn’t know.

The poll surveyed 1,000 registered voters nationwide between Dec. 8 – 11.

It has a plus/minus 3 percentage point margin of error.
