The year 2019 taught me a very powerful lesson, in fact, the most powerful life lesson this decade for me - it's not the best that wins all the time, sometimes it's as easy as showing up!
If you can do it, don't underestimate your ability, don't fear that you aren't good enough, just show up, and in the very least, try!
The News Anchors on our Television screens may not necessarily be the best this country has, some are actually average, the only difference is they did something that made them get noticed and they got the job, while those who may be way better didn't take that step, and some are languishing on this side of unemployment.
From the Parliament Speaker to the most ordinary citizen, everyone seems to agree that we don't have the best talent in that August house. Some even wonder how we have sunk so low! Yet there is no magic about it, some individuals offered themselves - the very first important step - then won (or rigged) elections and took the oath to become occupants of the house and custodians of the nation's laws! Many of the eloquent, honest, patriotic, reasonable et al Ugandans everyone wants in the house failed to take the first step, so they can't be in the house!
I learnt, from my experience going to night clubs, that many beautiful girls go out seeking companionship from the male sex but end up spending the cold night alone sipping on beer and walking to the ladies hoping some guy notices their loneliness. Many times, the boys notice them but are too fearful to approach! In their mind, such a beautiful girl cannot be alone in the club, or, the experience of a previous rejection from another beautiful girl in another night club, keeps them away all night! The two parties what the same thing, yet they end up like the similar poles of a magnet!
The same thing happens with the beautiful girls at campus that you want to vibe! It's actually possible she feels the same about you! The main determinant then is your ability to step up and tell her how you feel about her!
My brother Emmy Shatner Ankunda loves to ask me, "How will you ever know if you never even try?" Something akin to the old African say; "Not all that chased the Zebra caught it, but he who caught it chased it."
My 2020 will be a blast! Don't get surprised if you see me applying for jobs that are reserved for Teachers, don't get surprised if I start a church and adopt the title "Prophet Godwin Toko"! Don't be surprised if mid 2020 I tendered in my application to be nominated a presidential candidate......don't even be surprised if I date Zari or Fabiola, or both, most likely, I will try at least!!
What am saying is, if I feel that I can do it, and there is no harm in trying (or only negligible harm) then, most likely, I'll try it in 2020! That will apply for everything!
