Very few people saw it coming. On social media, supporters of Kyadondo East Member of Parliament Robert Kyagulanyi spent a better part of the day drumming support for Dr. Stella Nyanzi after her scathing words towards Dr. Kizza Besigye.
Indeed when it happened on Monday morning, many were caught off guard, as the leading opposition figures Dr. Besigye and Hon. Kyagulanyi Sentamu agreed to join forces and build a strong coalition to unseat the incumbent, NRM's President Yoweri Museveni in elections slated for 2021
The meeting in Wakiso's Rose Gardens caught many, including Police off guard; by the time they tried to disperse the crowd, the meeting had officially ended.
In a brief address, Dr. Besigye emphasized the importance of the alliance. He was optimistic of change. "Change will come to our country. The greater and more numerous the obstacles the greater the victory over injustice shall be. Let's stay the course; by God's Grace and our untiring we shall overcome," He said.

Many took to twitter to greet news of the alliance. USPA president Patrick Kanyomozi waxed lyrical. Borrowing from football stars, he compared it to having Barcelona's legend Lionel Messi and Juventus' Cristiano Ronaldo on the same team.
"Dr. Kizza Besigye and Hon. Kyagulanyi's alliance gives us a once in a lifetime opportunity to see Messi and Ronaldo on the same team," he wrote.
Veteran politician, Ken Lukyamuzi, who was in attendance took to Twitter to herald the alliance. " I want to congratulate Besigye and Bobi Wine for finding it appropriate to come together and form an alliance. President Museveni has no moral authority to dominate our country's politics,"
Others however suggested that the two should be ready to swim against the tide of state repression,
The two politicians vowed to launch the "No- Nedda" campaign against hunger that has ravaged Ugandans during the lockdown. It starts on Tuesday and 'tired" Ugandans are encouraged to hoot or hit saucepans and empty plates just to remind government of its obligation to provide food during the lockdown.
