{UAH} Uganda Railways Corporation Needs Ugx 93 Bn to Mitigate COVID-19 Effects

Allan,

If government,  I mean any government,  wants people with integrity and sound work ethic, there is a reserve to draw from both locally and abroad.

The problem is nepotism, cronyism and political party favors. We have many Ugandans and friends of Uganda who can provide value for money services.

For instance,  if we got work home for even half of my salary and good working conditions and assurance of safety of life, respect and freedom from harassment, I believe many of us  would attract well meaning workers who would deliver.

True!
Many have been sent to expensive course trained only to comeback and become a disgrace to society!
Wasted resources yet they have been earning exclusively higher wages than normal, even by European
/USA standards!

What I know, M7 has made sure a number of select Ugandans have very educated abroad in various fields. And they are many.
It will boil down to work ethics and patriotism. If they remain with their parents thieving characteristics , we are doomed for a long while.
Uganda has a great potential. If only there was a 30% discipline like that in Rwanda, how far would we be?
While loading over Ugandans ( statecraft)may not be that easy, M7 opted for political dispensation for more personal reasons rather than what is good for the country.
My take is that implosion is bound to happen before we painfully get over our differences.

note too that we have a full master  transport program and SGR project soon coming on board and now this covid19

The Uganda Railway Corporation (URC) is seeking 93.5 Billion shillings to mitigate the effects of COVID-19 on the sub sector and also repair and maintain its assets.

URC led by their Managing Director Charles Kateeba were on Tuesday appearing before Parliament's National Economy Committee that is interfacing with various businesses to discuss effects of the Coronavirus pandemic on the economy.

In his submission, Geoffrey Obala, the URC Chief Civil Engineer told Parliament that the COVID-19 pandemic has heavily impacted on the railway operations and it also came at the time the Corporation was struggling financially.
