{UAH} ARUA MP WADRI DOWNPLAYS BOBI’S ROLE IN HIS WIN, VOWS TO ENSURE ANT SHINES IN 2021

By Mulengera Reporters

Arua Municipality MP Ezati Kassiano Wadri has vowed to serve his people, while doing legislative work, for as long as he lives.  In a lengthy phone interview with Mulengera News, the stably recovering Kassiano, ruled out bowing out or retiring from politics at a time he said Gen Museveni remains a political problem for Uganda. He said he is in politics not to just make money but out of obligation and duty to ensure he uses the political platform available to him to advance the cause of political change in Uganda, a country he faults President Museveni for misgoverning.

"How can you ask me if 2021-2026 will be my last term when Museveni is still here? It's my duty to lead my people until Museveni leaves and we have a better-governed country. I didn't resign my very well-paying job of Commissioner in a government [Gender] Ministry because I was coming to look for money. If it was money, I would have stayed in public service because I had been asked to go for PS interviews where I would have earned much more. In 2001 when I first became MP, we were earning just Shs750,000 per month as our salary as MPs. So, it couldn't have been for money because I was earning much more as a Commissioner in the Ministry," Kassiano explained.

He also furiously refuted media reports that he was grievously ill. Saying it's true he has been unwell, Kassiano denied ever getting admitted in Mengo Hospital nor ever getting any advice from the medics there to go into early political retirement on the account of frail health. He said he was rapidly recovering from a medical condition he didn't disclose and was certain to get up soon and resume politicization of his native West Nile which he claims has been given a raw deal under Museveni when it comes to sharing the national cake.

Kassiano clarified that Gen Muntu's ANT remains his party of choice and promised to dedicate lots of his energy to ensure the nascent party springs up and dominates the political space not just in Arua but the whole of West Nile.

"It's my party and that's by conviction because you all saw how my former party the FDC mistreated me yet I was among the founders. How do you require me to apply for membership afresh simply because I previously stood as an independent? That was too much and I moved on. I'm now ANT and it's the party I will be working with others to market everywhere in West Nile to ensure we stop Museveni and crowd out his people in the whole of West Nile," Kassiano emphatically said adding that not even the Shs300bn Gen Museveni has invested in electricity transmission infrastructure projects for West Nile will diminish the region's poor people's resentment towards NRM.

The veteran legislator also gave his views about Bobi Wine Kyagulanyi Sentamu's decision to evolve his People Power momentum into a fully-fledged political party called NUP. "It's a very good development and I wish my brother Robert Kyagulanyi the best of lack because that shows the forces of change are expanding by the day," Kassiano said prompting us to ask why he doesn't reciprocate Bobi's game-changing support that enabled him become MP in August 2018 by joining NUP instead of Muntu's ANT.

Sounding very furious over this question, Kassiano said: "Who says it's Bobi Wine who made me win that election? Somebody who came on the last day just like Gen Muntu? Which magic did he use? His role in my victory has always been misunderstood and exaggerated. I was winning that election regardless of his coming to Arua. I was so popular that I won the election when I was actually behind bars. I never voted for myself but I still won; so how can you say that Robert Kyagulanyi, who was also behind bars just like myself, is the one who enabled me to win? That is simply not true."

He said he had been winning elections in West Nile before as Terego County MP without Bobi Wine being anywhere in the picture stressing that even in Arua Municipality, the same would happen even if Bobi Wine didn't participate in his rally on the last day.
