{UAH} A quick one from our UK Ambassador

Annet,

Recall what Jesus Christ said," I have not come for the righteous," ( Luke 5:32, Mark 2:17& Matt 9:13).

The harvest is ripe now; My work now is to preach to these brothers and sisters to leave their corruption so that they attain mental health and public respect, I am not even talking about sin.

Scheming for and trying to dodge arrest due to corruption breeds leads to anxiety and other mental illnesses.

This is what I am trying to address, it's a therapy from spiritual and mental health perspectives.

Friends,

Matters of ethical standards, dilemmas and so forth are hard to agree on, we go what a reasonable person would have done in the circumstances, and unfortunately, we have a shortage of reasonable persons in many societies.

Now Annet, your example is typical of big, misinformed and often arrogant people. You are right, he felt that you interferes with him luck and feared you might have told his son about his hideout. I know Allan would have also got annoyed if that the first time after so much begging!

We should do to others what we would expect them to do to us. If something is not yours, just don't take advantage of anything to have it.

What is interesting is that you seem to land on money related lost items...good for you.

I wish we al had similar chances...but some.people are ungreatfull.

One time i found a range rover packed pn the road side...people had set fire...to burn it...on my arrival they ran away. I asked about whose it was some Bodaboda man guessed right the owner. We worked out who it was. My nephew knew his son. Phoned son . The son gave us his Daddys number. We phoned him. He came running from somebodys. house.

On arrival we told him what had happened as he could see it himself. Guess what...the man was so ungreatfull he instead turned on us to have arranged for burning his car. Ok. We agreed with him to take the matter to court.

He never bothered because he knew everything was going to get exposed.  He closed his car and went away.

My nephew said i wish we had not bothered with such a fool..

Either we interrupted his peaceful moments  the reason he became furiously...i dont know.

So when you get people who remember and send you thanks message like the dollors into your account we should really praise them highly

Abbey,

A good story no doubt but it conflicts with ethics in some cases; that he received a reward from a colleague for a recovered laptop and money was wrong. He had two options either reject such a huge reward or declare it to the government since he got it by virtue of being sent by his employer to the ILOmeeting. He could accept a giftcard or any item with less than $100 value not US$4,500.00; that was ethically wrong but not surprising it is a brother doing it.

There's a lot of abuse in our country, I wonder how many high profile people turn to government the gifts they receive from their assignments as required by law or it's no longer a requirement.

There was a time a company gave me a cheque of Sh 350.0million instead of Sh. 350,000.00. I did not notice it as I just tossed the envelope into my attache case went on with other businesses until the following day when  I gave it to accountant for deposit,he was shocked and showed me the figures.

The accountant already had a plan of withdrawing the money and how rich we would be. I thought of sending him to return the cheque but on second thought decided to return it myself. The Musungu was so happy that I returned the cheque. He asked what I wanted as a reward, I told not to worry, I needed nothing. The accountant hated me so much!

Abbey;

Moral of the story is: If you didn't earn it, and it was not given to you, it doesn't belong to you. In US, the law allows you to keep up to $100.00 in cash, or its equivalent. If you keep an item of higher value than $100, that's petty theft, and you'd be facing charge of larceny, theft of personal property without use of force.

The most common way out of this dilemma is to take the recovered property to the nearest police department, or use the local newspapers to reach the owner, if there was no identifying information on the property.

in the ambassador's story, he has received rewards many times over, but I think the most cherished reward is knowing that he did the right thing. And that's priceless.

Lost and found...

In my formative years in 1970s, our school discipline master the late Pece Francis (RIP) from Abiece in the current day Kwania district always told us to return items lost by owners and found by us.

Fast forward, I am almost 60 years old and loving it. I have lost counts of many lost items and found by me. They also paid dividends. Some of the owners have become my permanent friends to date.

In a large conference organized by ILO in Geneva in September 1998, someone forgot a bag in the meeting hall on the last day as i remained in the hall reviewing my notes...I picked and opened it up. It had a laptop and a lot of money in a bundle. I didn't count it. I just fondled it and wished it was mine. Laptops was on vogue those days and few people had them. I kept the bag. The owner had already taken a flight back to Canada. The following day, I went back to the convener at ILO and took the bag to them. They asked for my address. I gave them my business card. After one month, I received an email on my yahoo email from the Canada man. He was so grateful for his bag and cash. After about 9 months, the Canada man sent me US$4500 to my bank account that I gave him...I roofed my first house so quickly and kept some of the money, topped it up, and bought my first car, a Mitshubishi Galant. I entered the year 2000k in style with a new house and a car...

Around September 2009, a parent of a certain girl one time sent Shs 900,000 to my Mobile cell phone. I was so broke! I  didn't use the money. After 30 minutes, I called him and sent it back. You know what? The moolah was for tuition fees for his daughter who was in the final year offering Law at Uganda Christian University Mukono. We became friends to date. His daughter now working has sent to my phone over Shs 2 000 000. I just get MoMo messages unexpectedly! She would not have graduated in time had the said funds landed in the hands of a thief.

Sometimes I lose items too. It is normal. Miraculously, I get them back because I return for others too.

Do not keep lost and found items that do not belong to you.

Karma has hears and eyes!
