{UAH} Kampala is Covid-19 time bomb

In the recent past, Kampala has recorded not only new infections but also Covid-19 deaths.

This is very scary considering Kampala hosts more than two million people during day. These infections and deaths are a wake-up call that should trigger quick and sufficient interventions.

However, as interventions are being sought, it's vital to audit ourselves individually and city authorities collectively to identify the following: what are the possible causes?; are we individually following MOH/ presidential guidelines?; are the major city players helping government to enforce these guidelines?; what are the possible weak links in prevention against Covid-19 with the city centre and metro area generally?; are the major players in the city doing enough to aid the enforcement of Covid-19 preventive measures?

Looking at the current trends, the conduct of the city dwellers is evident that we are sitting on a time bomb. The following pointers clearly demonstrate that all stakeholders in the fight against the spread of the coronavirus have lost the urge to live a cautious life.

The Kampala metropolitan region is covered with "illegal vendors." There is a need to get vendors off the streets. Taxis and boda bodas carry different people from different destinations.

Measures were put in place before they were allowed back into operations, but as it stands now, every measure has been literary abused. From overloading to carrying passengers without face masks, failure to sanitize clients before boarding taxis etc.

Taxis and boda bodas must be firmly handled if Kampala is to remain safe and secure from Covid-19 new infections and deaths. Meetings and gatherings are slowly increasing. These gatherings will certainly scale up infection rates if government guidelines are not followed.
