WAS THE MOROTO JAILBREAK BY PRISONERS OR CAPTIVES???
By CHANGE OF GUARDS
The Museveni regime is reporting that there was a jailbreak at its Moroto Central Prison in the Karamoja region on September 16, 2020 at 4.30 p.m. The escapees are said to have overpowered the guards killing one soldier before breaking out of the jail and heading to the armoury from where they got 15 guns before they took off. It has not been revealed that the 215 male and female escapees were ethnic Jie warriors who had been rounded up by the army in August this year on charges of illegal possession of guns and involvement in acts of insecurity. It is reported that a combined force of the army and other security agencies swung into action with helicopters in an effort to recapture the escapees. Then 24 hours later, it is reported that 3 have been killed while 7 have been recaptured.
Moroto Prison is said to have a total population of 620 inmates. Museveni's prisons and other detention facilities are always overcrowded with inmates living in inhumane conditions. It has also become a norm to simply round up people and just dump them in detention without trial. The case in point is the hundreds of Bakonjo of Kasese who were brutally rounded up from Kasese and dumped in a Jinja prison without trial for close to four years now (November 2016) and they have been dying one by one from within detention. If these illegally detained Bakonjo forcefully broke out of the said Jinja Prison, would you call it a jail break or a search for freedom??
Where and when were these so-called Jie warriors who are said to have escaped from Moroto Prison charged and with what crime? How is the investigation or trial of their alleged crimes progressing? When were they last in court? How many relatives of some Karamojong Prison Warders at Moroto Prison have fallen victim to the army's brutal campaign of terror? How many Prison Warders were shot dead or injured during the ordeal? Does the general public in Moroto view the escapees as criminals so as to offer help in recapturing them? In 2016, Museveni flew Dr. Besigye to Moroto and detained him in the same prison facility. Would Besigye have escaped too if he was still there?
