{UAH} NUP FANATICS BRAND SEGONA PA M7 MOLE PLANTED ON BOBI

On Friday, lawyer Medard Segona appeared before Justice Musa Sekaana of the High Court. It's the day he cross examined the ill-fated Moses Nkonge Kibalama from whom Bobi Wine Kyagulanyi Sentamu acquired the NUP leadership. Kibalama deserved to be cross examined because he changed sides to testify in favor of the disgruntled NUP members who went to court challenging the circumstances under which Kyagulanyi became Party President.

 

Originally, Kibalama was a defense witness the very side Lukwago & Co Advocates (Segona's employer) was hired to represent in the complex NUP dispute which actually remains unprecedented in the Ugandan jurisprudence. So, having turned himself into a hostile witness, it was only natural for the Segonas to cross examine Kibalama to basically discredit his evidence contained in his subsequent affidavit.

So, Friday was D-day and Segona was in the Musa Sekaana court to cross examine Kibalama. Naturally, he didn't come alone. He came with legal assistants to assist him as he carried out the cross examination. One of these was Annet Nanfuuma, a young lawyer, who for the last three years has worked under Segona as a mentee.

In fact, she officially is designated by her employer (Lukwago & Co Advocates) to serve as the Research Assistant (PA of sorts) to Segona who always goes to court with her. That day access to court was heavily regulated because of large numbers that had been expected. Security strictly permitted lawyers, journalists and some key NUP officials. Obviously, Nanfuuma fell in one of the permitted categories and by some coincidence, security allocated her a place to sit right behind Kyagulanyi. This meant appearing very conspicuous in all the Kyagulanyi photos the media kept taking and releasing from court that day. Kyagulanyi supporters naturally kept sharing these photos as they celebrated Segona for pushing Kibalama into giving very contradicting evidence besides his protégé Paul Ssimbwa Kagombe.

Online curiosity emerged as to who this nice-looking young girl seated behind Kyagulanyi was. Unable to readily identify who she exactly was, the PP/NUP supporters took to social media immediately branding Nanfuuma an SFC mole planted to eavesdrop on what her neighbors Kyagulanyi and Kibalama were speaking in confidence. Led by renowned PP/NUP blogger MC Norman Ganja and a one Mwesigwa Matia, Kyagulanyi supporters went into overdrive throwing every mud they could at the innocent young lawyer.

Some went as far as beginning volunteering personal information they know about as those writing comments demanded to know her parents and where she stays so that they work out the most appropriate way to deal with her and make her regret her spying on the NUP Principal. Within just hours, consensus clearly emerged she was a spy the regime who must be sufficiently exposed, isolated and decisively punished. Perceiving this as an act of incitement of violence against her person and immediate family, Nanfuuma (the Buddo SS OG) privately reached out to MC Norman Ganja who, feeling emboldened, instead resorted to declassifying and posting everything she wrote to him privately via inbox.

This crude way of approaching things by Ganja caused other PP/NUP supporters to praise him for having been effective in his social media activism. He was encouraged to keep the pressure up since Nanfuuma was perceived as being remorseful and pleading to be pardoned by reaching out to Ganja privately. Nanfuuma, who had clearly explained herself as one of the lawyers working with Segona on the case from Lukwago & Co Advocates, lost her cool and assured Ganja and Mwesigwa Matia of readiness to pursue them in defamation because their relentless acts weren't only defamatory but also amounted to cyber harassment. The PP/NUP cyber bullies remained unrelentless prompting Nanfuuma to assure them they would have personally answer in court how what makes her a Museveni mole deployed under the SFC to spy on Kyagulanyi.

The larger picture of things is such hostility aimed at lawyers, who most likely are doing this case probono for Kyagulanyi, risk complicating the relationship between Lukwago & Co Advocates and their client (the NUP Principal) who badly needs such a reputable credible law firm by his side now than ever before in his political life. He will have to reach out with an official apology in order to deescalate the cyber war his supporters have launched targeting the team of young lawyers doing the required research for Segona as he prepares to make final written submissions rebutting the wild claims Kibalama and others have continued making against Kyagulanyi and other key NUP leaders.
