{UAH} What do you objectively think about names like Crooked Hillary and Sleepy Joe that are regularly used by Trump? Do they work in forming the opinion of anyone at all?
I will cop to voting Trump in 2016. Prior to COVID, I was somewhat satisfied with much of what he accomplished while in office, and was continually disgusted with MSNBC, CNN and the print media for pandering to the public's thirst for more trashy stories about President. I kept hoping that even Rachel Maddow and her ilk would ultimately stop carping at the guy who was going to be our leader for the next four years, but no. Actual journalism took a back seat to the ratings generated by biased stories from the left. So, I realized I would have to get my unbiased coverage of US politics from sources other than the constant left- or right-leaning electronic media. Meanwhile, on a daily basis Trump continued to convince me that he is a flawed individual incapable of taking anyone's counsel but his own, and completely devoid of human empathy.
When he became our President, I was anxious to see how a non-politician, and successful businessman would run the country. Trump is not that guy. He is a non-politician, but since he wont take anyone's advice and surrounds himself with people who do not understand how Washington works (his family members), and he is incapable of building consensus, he is largely ineffective in working with Congress. Also, I would argue that he is not a successful businessman, in spite of his carefully tailored image. Successful businessmen are self-aware enough to hire experts in areas where they are weak, listen to the advice of their team members and weigh the consequences of their words and actions. In times of crises, they are the calm voice convincing their stakeholders that the situation is under control and that resolutions to the problems are being assessed and an action plan is underway. They read and study to keep themselves apprised of factors that affect their business. They often arrive at decisions by consensus, have a firm, fair and friendly hand toward other leaders, both friends and foes, and communicate their policies and visions. Above all else, they strive to understand and address the concerns of their stakeholders/ constituents. They do not address every slight, thereby giving attention to those not deserving it (think Kim Jong Un). Nor do they resort to schoolhouse gossip and name-calling.
To those who argue that Trump must be a successful businessman… look at how wealthy he is, I say NO. As soon as his tax returns are released, and they will be when he is finally no longer the President, it will be revealed that he is broke, and his brand will dissolve like tears in the rain. With more than 3,000 lawsuits against him and his businesses, the contingent liabilities will far out-weigh his assets. His borrowing power is nearly non-existent. At best, he has taken a vast fortune and turned it into a small fortune. The name Trump has allowed him to hire contractors who would get paid late or not paid at all. He made sure that suing him or his businesses would be more expensive than to settle or walk away. Is this a businessman? Is that anyone's idea of "The Art of the Deal? Is this someone we can admire or trust? Should Donald Trump anyone's leader? Does he care about anyone's problems, or does he merely covet the power inherent with his current office?
