SEYCHELLES OPPOSITION LEADER WINS PRESIDENCY ON 6th ATTEMPT:
Wavel Ramkalawan, leader of the Seychelles opposition political party SNP has been declared winner of the country's presidential election held last week. Rev Ramkalawan a former priest in the Anglican Church of Seychelles polled 55% compared to 43% scored by Faure the outgoing president.
Ramkalawan (59) gave his first shot at the presidency in 1998 when he scored 27% of the votes. He has been contesting for the country's highest office since then scoring 45% in 2001. In the previous election held in 2015, Ramkalawan lost the presidency by a mere 200 votes. Today, he has finally been declared winner after securing 55% of the votes on the 6th attempt.
