The chairwoman of the Maricopa County Republican Party in Arizona resigned after it came to light that she skipped a meeting ahead of Election Day that focused on testing the county's ballot tabulation machines.

Rae Chornenky, an attorney, has often clashed with the party's further-right-leaning figures, the Arizona Republic reported. According to her LinkedIn, Chornenky has served as chairwoman of the Maricopa County GOP for about two years. She was the first woman to serve in the position in the state's most populous county.

Democrats posted to social media that Chornenky had been absent from the preelection meeting. Calls for her to step down were supported by Chornenky's rival counterpart, Maricopa County Democratic Party Chairman Steven Slugocki, and Democratic state Rep. Kelly Townsend.

"I just found [out] that Maricopa County GOP Chairman Rae Chornenky failed to show up to certify the Dominion / Machines. For this reason, I call for her resignation, along with her 1st Vice Chair." Townsend tweeted.

I just found our that Maricopa County GOP Chairman Rae Chornenky failed to show up to certify the Dominion / Machines. For this reason, I call for her resignation, along with her 1st Vice Chair.

Republican sources told KNXV-15, a local ABC affiliate, that Chornenky resigned Tuesday night. The Washington Examiner reached out to the Maricopa County Republican Party for comment.

Testing of the county's ballot tabulation machines, which come from Dominion Voting Systems, is open to the public and performed before and after every election to certify the accuracy of tabulation equipment and voting devices.

Dominion has contracts in all of the key swing states where the Trump campaign is embarking on legal challenges over allegations of voter fraud. Some Republicans have claimed that "software glitches" in the voting system may have led to changed votes from President Trump to Democratic challenger Joe Biden. Little evidence has been shown that this was the case, and local officials have disputed claims that the software is to blame for widespread voting problems.

Slugocki posted on Oct. 6 that he attended a meeting to examine the accuracy of the voting machines and make sure ballots were counted correctly. He posted a photo with Arizona Secretary of State Katie Hobbs and said that "the machines had 100% accuracy."

One of my legal responsibilities as County Chair is to conduct the accuracy tests of the voting machines and certify they are counting ballots correctly. I sat with Arizona Secretary of State @SecretaryHobbs and we verified

The Democrat said he noticed that no one from the Republican or Libertarian parties had attended.

Maricopa County, which includes Phoenix, is the fourth-largest county in the United States and has long been known as a Republican stronghold.

Trump has disputed Arizona being a victory for Biden and was upset when the state was declared for Biden on election night by some news outlets, including Fox News.

On Wednesday, Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich, a Republican, said there's been little evidence that any votes were illegitimate and that it's unlikely Trump would be able to win enough of the still-uncounted ballots in the state to overcome Biden's victory.

"It does appear Joe Biden will win Arizona,” Brnovich said in an interview on Fox Business.
