{UAH} Schools are ripping off parents

I have noted with concern the growing culture of schools inflating Uneb registration fees for candidates at PLE, UCE and UACE levels.

I know of a scenario where a school has charged more than Shs500,000 as Uneb registration fees for a UCE candidate and Shs200,000 for PLE candidate.

The explanation is that the fees entails both registration fees and transport to Uneb to fully register the candidate. The same schools has also continued to fundraise money from parents to buy a school van and yet they continue to charge transport costs on all candidates.

Even when the school van or buse is bought, the contribution fee (van fee) is never removed from the total school fees that a parent must pay. All this is unfair to students and parents. 

The official Uneb registration fees for 2020/2021 for PLE is Shs34,000 per head and late registration is Shs68,000; UCE is  Shs164,000 and an additional fee of Shs15,000, and for UACE, the fee is Shs186,000 and additional fee of Shs18,000.

These figures are available in the public domain, hence no school should charge students outside these fees structures. I also call upon parents to be vigilant and know what they are paying against what they ought to pay as this will help us clean our society. The schools must stop this kind of ripping off of parents.
