{UAH} Teachers should think of other options
Teachers should think of other options
On February 1, 2021 the cabinet approved a recommendation of reopening of schools to non-candidate classes, primary, secondary and tertiary institutions to be opened in a staggered manner to ensure compliance with the standard operating procedures.
However, the pre-primary schools will stay closed to learners of three to five years since they can hardly keep these SOPS.
This means that so many teachers will remain jobless. These kindergarten /nursery / preprimary schools employ so many categories of people in different departments and their continuous closure is catastrophic but unavoidable. Most of the private schools will find it impossible to get back on their feet and will be no more by the time the sector is fully opened.
This is an eye-opener for teachers to think widely in order to survive during this pandemic and after. The teachers need to think outside the box and utilize the free period of weekends, public holidays and school holidays that are stipulated by the ministry of education and engage in income-generating activities such as bee-keeping, goat rearing, tailoring, baking, farming and many other activities that might not need fulltime engagement.
Teachers have potential customers such as parents, teaching and non-teaching staff as well as students.
