{UAH} FDC to shun IPOD meeting over state brutality

The opposition Forum for Democratic Change party has turned down an invitation to be part of the third Ordinary IPOD Summit meeting that will be chaired by President Yoweri Museveni, this Friday, at Kololo Independence Grounds.

The FDC party spokesperson Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda says that their party President Patrick Amuriat will write to IPOD highlighting FDC's reasons to excuse itself from the meeting.
"FDC party President Amuriat Oboi was tortured during the campaigns and is not in the right sense of mind to meet his tormentor. Our interaction with Museveni has made us come to the conclusion FDC has made," Ssemujju said.
However, the NRM party secretary general, Justine Kasule Lumumba has insited that she is confident that FDC will turn up for the meeting.
"I would request FDC to come, and they raise the issues they have. I am waiting for the letters Hon. Ssemujju has said. You (FDC) are the dominant opposition party in Uganda, don't run away from your responsibilities. Come and expose us," she responded.
Nganda however insists that FDC has nothing to discuss with Museveni who will chair the IPOD meeting. "A dialogue is very good, but you don't go into a dialogue pretending that the conditions are good. Even in war situations, they declare a cease-fire then go and talk. The cease-fire hasn't been declared. Let there be a cease-fire, release everyone you have in military detention and then agree on the dialogue conditions," he says.
