IS A POLICE OFFICER SUPPOSED TO INTRODUCE HIM/HERSELF?
Mafene has just started renting in Kinawataka. While walking back home from the shop, he was confronted by 2 talk and unsmiling men who asked him who he was and why he was walking while drinking his energy drink. He pushed them aside and ran off screaming for help against the daylight kidnappers. It turns out these were police officers, and they want to arrest him for 'fleeing from authority'. Mafene insists these guys looked like 'thugs' and did not even introduce themselves so in this time of 'Kijjambiya' it was better to be safe than sorry.
SHOULD A POLICE OFFICER IDENTIFY HIM/HERSELF?
By law, a police officer must wear his/her uniform with a clear identification such as a name tag and number. Different police officers have different uniforms such as the khaki and the traffic uniforms we know so well. For example, Police officers have a distinct uniform, the uniform for general duties and most other officers is khaki with a head dress with a service badge, belt and shoulder epaulettes that show their rank and which unit they belong to. The Mobile Police Patrol Unit, wear a blue camouflage print uniform. You have a right to ask a police officer to identify him/herself and show the warrant to show the purpose of their visit. All police officers must have a warrant card that they can produce on request.
Some officers such as CIDs (those who investigate crimes and gather evidence in the field) wear casual clothes, but should identify themselves so they are not mistaken for someone else.
