A 16-year-old boy was shot in the face and killed and a man was injured when gunfire broke out on the Lower East Side Friday night, cops and police sources said.
The victims were with a large group of people standing at the corner of Delancey Street and Suffolk Street at around 8:30 p.m. when a gunman approached and opened fire, the sources said.
The teen was found lying unconscious in the street, not far from the entrance to the Williamsburg Bridge, cops said. He was rushed to Bellevue Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His name was not immediately released.
“They killed my nephew. They killed my nephew,” a man pacing near the crime scene was heard saying over the phone later Friday. He confirmed to The Post that his nephew had been shot.
The other victim, a 24-year-old man, was hit once in his right thigh and driven to Mount Sinai Beth Israel by friends, police and sources said. He was expected to recover.

Billy Jernigan, 26, said he and his girlfriend Gabriella “sprinted” when they heard gunshots while walking to a movie theater to catch “No Time to Die,” the latest installment in the James Bond series.
“I grabbed her and sprinted,” Jernigan told The Post. “I was like ‘holy sh-t.’”
“I walked into the theater and they were asking for the vax ID. I’m like, ‘those are gunshots, that’s the last of my worries,'” the East Village resident said, adding he called 911 from the Regal Essex Crossing.
“My main concern was to get the hell out of there and duck and sprint to make sure there were no stray bullets or crossfire… we sprinted right through the doors.”

An employee of a smoke shop across the street from the scene also reported hearing a series of gunshots.
“I was in the basement and I heard pop, pop, pop,” said the worker, who didn’t give his name.
“I saw them across the street when they were pumping the body…he looked lifeless.”
A Lower East Side resident, who only gave her first name, Evelyn, said she saw a mad dash of people running when the gunfire rang out.
“[There were] lots of people running. Everyone was trying to get out of there,” she said.
“When the kid went down, they knew he was dead.”
No arrests were made as of late Friday.
Sources said at least five .40 caliber shell casings were recovered from the scene. Officers were canvassing the area for security footage.
Police believe the shooting was targeted, according to sources.
The teen is at least the 22nd child claimed by the city’s deadly scourge of street violence so far this year.
A Post analysis of NYPD data found that at least 21 children were killed by either guns or knives between January and Sept. 30 — more than triple the number for the same period in both 2019 and 2020.
Some of the victims have been intended targets, caught up in gang violence, while others have been innocent bystanders stuck in the crossfires.
Experts and politicians have attributed the increase in juvenile street violence to the ample free time the pandemic offered youths who were forced to learn at home remotely as well as the loss of summer jobs and recreational opportunities.
