The National Unity Platform – NUP has yet again registered the resignation of one of its top leaders.
Mary Sserumaga who has been the head of the Policy team in the party submitted a resignation from the party position a few days ago citing the lack of respect, nepotism, greed and poor communication with the leadership.
Sserumaga has been leading a team of more than 10 people to among others draw strategies for the party and design policies for which the Young party ought to follow.
Among other things, the policy team since December 2020, during the election period complained of wasting a lot more time designing a manifesto for which the Party flag bearer then, Robert Kyagulanyi ought to have followed but disregarded each time Bobi Wine went campaigning.
Also, the team has never been consulted or tasked for further assignments in drawing the party's strategic positions on different matters rendering the team irrelevant, they also drafted a new constitution for the party but since then it has never been followed but Bobiwine is just following his own rules in running the party.
It is upon such background that Mary Sserumaga decided to resign from the position.
In June 2020, Serumaga was appointed to head the Policy team by the then People Power principal Mr Robert Kyagulanyi.
She joined a team of Mr David Lewis Rubongoya, an attorney and teacher, Joel Ssenyonyi and Dr Lina Zedriga and Dr Roy Ssemboga as key leaders in the Party
She however came short severally of arguing with the leadership over failure to follow the policy team, disregarding the team on key developments in the party among others.
During the launch of the NUP manifesto in Mbarara during the election period, the National Unity Platform ran short of space to carry the policy team during the launch of the manifesto they (Policy team) drafted save for Flavia Kalule Nabagabe who read the manifesto.
The team also submitted a work plan for the year 2021 just after the election period but until now, there hasn't been any response from the Party Secretary General David Lewis Rubongoya.
"I resigned from the position and cannot offer any answers to what you are asking," Serumaga told a team that makes up the Policy WhatsApp group.
Well as she has been called upon severally by the party leadership to retreats and meetings, Serumaga has not attended let alone some retreats being canceled by the Party leadership.
A source within the party leadership said that the reverence of the resignation of Serumaga left many leaders angered by the ever increasing number of resignations from the party.
"Serumaga is a passionate person. She wants things to be done. However, the party remains reactionary and never follow the written documents supposed to work as guiding principles of the organization, a source told this website.
