MY NEIGHBOUR'S LATE-NIGHT ACTIVITIES ARE LEAVING ME SLEEPLESS. WHAT SHOULD I DO?

Mukasa and his family have been renting peacefully for the last five years without thinking about moving until Pogba, their new tenant, moved in. They have had no peace of mind since then; Mukasa has had to answer difficult questions from his 9-year-old kids about why neighbours are making 'funny' sounds. To make matters worse, they seem to be witch doctors; they get out of their house at night and run around naked and shake 'nsaasi' while dancing like they are possessed. Should Mukasa just shift, or is there some other solution?

WHAT DOES THE LAW SAY?

Every tenant has a right to quiet enjoyment of their property. This means a tenant has a right to use their house without interference from the landlord or those who work for them. However, it also means that the tenant should not have  annoyances from any other tenant as well.

When we talk about annoyances, we mean unreasonable, offensive or even unlawful behaviour. This can include being a 'night dancer', practising witchcraft or even making very loud 'sounds' at night.

As a tenant, if another tenant is doing this, you can bring it to the attention of the landlord and ask them to fix it either by cautioning the tenant or evicting them
