{UAH} Ssemogerere stood for MP but Obote didn't in 1980

The 1967 Constitution said:

After the National general elections, the Chairman/President General of the party having won the highest number of Parliamentary seats will automatically become the President of the Republic of Uganda. 

This is how Dr Apollo Milton Obote became the Fountain of Honour without the hussle of campaigning for Mp-ship for either Akokoro or Kampala East. On his return to Uganda from exile in Tanzania Milton Obote stated categorically that he had outgrown that level of vying for a small constituency like his counterpart Dr Paul Kawanga Simwogerere was struggling for in Busiro South.

By the way Dr Paul Kawanga Simwogerere after the elections in 1980 did not come out with complete Zero. He had luckily overwhelmingly won the MP seat for Busiro South.

From there he, Dr Paul Kawanga Simwogerere convinced majority of the DP candidates who had won in their constituencies that they should storm the Parliament, occupy the Opposition benches and fight UPC from within.

What we saw later was that the promised fighting from within did not yield conspicuous results for us to document.
