{UAH} WHEN CAN YOU INCREASE RENT?

WHEN CAN YOU INCREASE RENT?

The law does not have a strict time when the landlord should always increase rent, but it depends on the situation.

If you agreed to rent a place for a specified period such as one year, then you are in what is called a fixed tenancy. In this case, if you and your landlord did not agree on when to increase the rent, then the landlord cannot increase rent until this rental period ends. That means the landlord can only increase rent every time the new contract starts.

If you just started renting a house without a defined rental period, then the landlord may increase rent from time to time. The law however still limits the increase to only 10% per year and allows you (the tenant) a reasonable time within which to plan for these changes. For example, if you pay rent monthly then you are entitled to at least a month's notice to put your finances in order.
