{UAH} DEMOCRATS DISTANCING THEMSELVES FROM HARRIS KOMUNISM

Democrats Distancing Themselves From Harris' "Kamunism"

In a bid to quell the apprehensions of potential backers in the grocery sector, who perceive economic catastrophe in Vice President Kamala Harris' food price control proposal, advocates are hinting that the plan is irrelevant and unlikely to gain Congressional approval.

Vice President Harris recently unveiled her plans for price controls across various economic sectors, leading to the term "Kamunism" trending on social media. This economic strategy has also been dubbed "communist" by former President and Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump. However, Republicans are not the only ones expressing concerns about potential shortages resulting from Harris's plans. The grocery industry and even some economists typically aligned with Democrats are also expressing alarm, as reported by The Post Millennial.

According to anonymous Democrats in Congress and Congressional aides, neither price control nor price gouging bills are expected to become law in the near future. These sources suggest that the proposal is merely a political maneuver aimed at shifting the blame for inflation from President Joe Biden to corporations, despite Harris being a key part of the Biden-Harris administration.

One anonymous Democratic lawmaker commented, “It’s clear to me these are very general, very lofty goals.” This sentiment was echoed by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D-MI), who advised against reading too much into the proposal, stating on NBC News’ Meet the Press that Harris is merely speaking in “broad strokes.”

The Post Millennial also noted that Harris's plan would necessitate a level of antitrust action that would likely face significant resistance in both the House and Senate. “I honestly still don’t know how this would work,” another unnamed Democrat in Congress confessed.

Questions are arising about the source of Harris's policy advice, which increasingly leans towards government control, spanning from food prices to housing. Despite her shift in rhetoric from “price controls” to “price gouging,” the Harris campaign maintains that this would not require sweeping emergency powers that could target any corporation deemed excessively profitable. Instead, it would only focus on “bad actors."

Brian Nelson, Harris's economic advisor, discussed the “price gouging” plan at the Democratic National Convention, attempting to assuage critics by assuring that the federal government would only intervene to halt “price gouging” during a national emergency.

“She’s going to work with Congress to ensure that it is directed at bad actors, bad activity,” Nelson stated. “It’s not meant to set prices or price levels or anything like that. And that is not the way current state laws around price gouging are.” However, Nelson failed to clarify what would constitute an emergency or provide examples of corporations guilty of “price gouging.”

A food industry source told The Post Millennial, “That’s why I think it’s not a serious policy,” casting further doubt on the viability and effectiveness of Harris's proposal.
