{UAH} THE SHIP THAT KILLED SO MANY AFRICANS THAT WE ALL IGNORED TO POST

Ministers of the Interior of the various European countries are meeting in Brusells today to discuss this tragedy. But in my opinion they will be trying to find solutions to a problem that does not exist. If not, they will create a problem and then try to find solutions to it. Don't nations have the right to restrict entry into their borders -  refugees or not? Look at what is happening in Jordan today. If other nations don't come to Jordan's aid she will be overwhelmed by the sheer numbers of refugees from Syria - let alone the ability to take care of them even if its only at the level of controlling the impact it will have on the Jordanian society. Even though for the sake of human rights nations have the obligation to accept and treat refugees fairly, nations still have the right to determine at what level they would think continuous reception of refugees would be detrimental for the country. So I don't see why European nations are displaying such hypocrisy when it comes to putting a cap as to how many refugees they would like to take in.They should not be pretending that they want these people. They don’t and they are right to feel that way. The truth of the matter is that a majority of these Africans do not even qualify to be refugees. Why should any Cameroonian, Nigerian, Togolese, Sierra Leonean Ghanaian etc. claim he/she is a refugee and needs assistance from a European country? Even Somalia is gently getting back to its feet and should not qualify any more as a war torn nation. Its nationals overseas are returning to help reconstruct the country.

If the European nations really think there is a problem to be solved, it is hardly within their borders. The problem is in the various African countries and until they tackle it right where it is , the refugees will continue coming and drowning in the seas. I even believe these kinds of massive deaths is secretly welcomed by these European countries because it automatically solves their problems. Otherwise if they are truly sympathetic with the plight of these African people they should put pressure on African leaders to make their various societies conducive for economic activities in all its varieties to be possible..

Is it not an irony that when economists are congratulating the fast pace of economic growth in all of Africa, thousands of African are still emigrating to the west in search of greener pastures? So what is really happening to the growth economists are talking about? At what point will there be enough investment to guarantee enough jobs to stop this exodus? I think such a point can only be attained when the majority of African would be gainfully self employed ,in locally created service  industries and other petty businesses that supplement the heavy investments - and these can  only operate in an organized social setting. Africa needs small scale building contractors, skilled house painters, welders, carpenters, machinists, plumbers, etc. But these are the type of skilled workers who run from the continent ad drown in the Mediterranean ocean. So the question is why? The answer is simple.  Let us start with this example.  African governments do not apply any building codes in their various countries. As such people hardly need the services of skilled carpenters, plumbers, roofers, landscapers etc. etc. Also there are no standards when it comes to quality control in the hotel industry. And so in most African cities majority of hotel owners hardly employ enough or even trained personell.  Those young people who would have trained to be these skilled workers instead run off to drown in the Mediterranean sea. We can apply this phenomenon to many other areas of the society. So we can see that no matter how much heavy investment is done in Africa, the benefits hardly trickle to those who might never qualify to have direct employment from these companies. The disorderly nature of our societies act as a buffer stopping these investment benefits to trickle down to the majority of Africans. In a very organized society, many people would have lucrative full time jobs which have only very remote connection to the huge investments in manufacturing, extractive and telecom industries. But there must be a structured pattern that would allow benefits of huge investments to sip through the cracks right down to the different strata of society that might have very limited link to the heavy investment. That is what the European leaders should be doing - exerting pressure to bear on these leaders to restructure their societies. If not our lower strata of society will always be jobless and poor no matter how much investment is done at the top.
