From the late Samwel Wanjiru whose language had been boosted by his long stay overseas, we also have runners who changed nationality for greener pastures abraod, people like Benard Lagat of the US and Wilson Kosgei Kipketer who has been Danish since 1996.
Willis Ochieng', a linguist and KTN"s Friday Briefing's word master, told The Nairobian that few people in the world are perfect in a second language.
"No one can be perfect when it comes to foreign or language of international commanding especially when the language in use is not the native language of the speaker. Not even the Britons have a perfect mastery of the English language because a number of words are borrowed from other languages which they too cannot pronounce correctly,"
Willis said. As such, Kenyans have every reason to smile exept for a few local athletes who experience difficulties in speaking in English.
A quick survey by The Nairobian based on video interviews and audio recordings of various athletes idenitifed several who are known to be articulate and have a good command of the colonial language.
