Bishop Bruno invites all to memorial service honoring Nelson Mandela on Saturday, December 14, 4pm, at Episcopal Cathedral Center, Los Angeles

Welcoming honored guests from the South African community, the Rt. Rev. J. Jon Bruno, bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Los Angeles, invites all to the Cathedral Center of St. Paul at 4 p.m. on Saturday, December 14, for a memorial service saluting South Africa's former President Nelson Mandela, who died December 5 at age 95.

The service will include a reflection offered by the Rt. Rev. Edward Mackenzie, retired bishop suffragan of Cape Town, who served in ministry with Archbishop Desmond Tutu. South Africa's current consul general in Los Angeles, the Hon. Cyril Ndaba, also has accepted Bishop Bruno's invitation to share in the service, set for the eve of Mr. Mandela's December 15 state funeral in his native village of Qunu in South Africa's Eastern Province.

Traditional South African music and dance will enliven the Los Angeles liturgy planned at Bishop Bruno's request by the Rev. Lester Mackenzie of St. Matthew's Church, Pacific Palisades. A reception in the Cathedral Center's Great Hall will follow the service.

The Cathedral Center of St. Paul is located at 840 Echo Park Avenue, Los Angeles, just off the Hollywood (101) Freeway. Ample free parking is available on two garage levels and on the street. Further information may be obtained by phoning the diocesan Community Relations Office at 213.482.2040, ext. 240.

Rest eternal grant your servant Madiba, O Lord, and let light perpetual shine upon him.
