Atletico's ENTIRE TEAM cost £20m less than Fernando Torres

After Atletico Madrid knocked Chelsea out of the Champions League, Jose Mourinho said that the Spanish club held a big advantage as they'd had the same coach for the last three seasons.

"It's the difference between one year and three and it's a big difference...they are a very good side, very adapted to the ideas of this manager - every player fits his idea of how to play," he said.

Maybe so Jose, but when you look at the cost of the two starting line-ups that took the field on Wednesday night, it really brings home just how impressive Atletico's victory was.

That is because Chelsea's starting line-up cost more than SIX TIMES as much as Atletico's line-up, with three Chelsea players – Willian, Eden Hazard and Fernando Torres – each costing more all by themselves than the ENTIRE Atletico team.

Indeed, £50m flop Fernando Torres cost a whopping £20m more than all 11 Atletico players put together.

The most expensive signing on the Atletico side was Arda Turan who cost €12m (just under £10m) when the club purchased him from Galatasaray in summer 2011.

Without doubt, though, the bargain buy of their team was Diego Costa who cost less than €2m and who will reportedly be sold to - you guessed it - Chelsea this summer for upwards of €60m.

The moral of the story is that while money can help you achieve success, it can't guarantee it!
