MASAZA CUP 2015
Bulemezi 0 - 0 Bugerere
By Fred Kyambadde
Bulemezi FC were held to a goalless draw by Bugerere FC in a drab Masaza Cup encounter at their home ground on Sunday.
The hosts have won the tournament once – in 2012 – and although they are hoping to replicate that achievement, their latest result did little to inspire such ambitions.
Bulemezi's start to this campaign has been far from convincing, having picked up only two points in three games played so far, including a stabbing defeat to Bululi FC in their opening match.
Sunday's game was another disappointing display, where they were frustrated by a visiting Bugerere side that came on the back of a win over Kyagwe the previous week.
The hosts came close to opening the lead, but Brian Mutesasira headed wide when he should have nodded home.
And the home side would have rued that missed opportunity had the visitors' striker Alex Semuyamba been clinical enough to put his side in front deep in the first half with an all-important tap-in.
With three games ahead between them and a quarter final place, the visitors, now with four points, will have to rise to the occasion in their upcoming fixtures.
Bugerere, who have two former Bulemezi players who featured in their title-winning year, made sure to mark them out to prevent them from causing any problems.
It was a lackluster performance on the part of either side in the attacking department, with both striking forces failing to craft a way through.
But the discipline in the back line of both teams will be highly credited for the stalemate.
Bugerere's next match is a home fixture against Bululi in Kayunga while Bulemezi will make a trip to Kyagwe next Sunday.
