Investors shot in Nakasongola
Written by Zurah NakabugoTwo businessmen of Asian origin were shot, one fatally, on Wednesday night by unknown assailants.
The two have been identified as Sanjeev Baniba, 45, who died on the spot and Srivinas Reddy, 56, who was injured seriously.
The victims own SMPP Uganda Ltd, a rice project in Wakasambya village, Kyakonwa parish, Nakasongola district. Baniba was the manager of the project and Srivinas the director.
According to the police deputy spokesperson, Polly Namaye, the assailants attacked the two men while at home.
"As they were about to start their dinner, the attackers entered the dining room with one of the workers at the project, Singn Ravrndeo Jalandhn, who pointed at them.
They immediately asked for the money before shooting them in the chest and the stomach. They later disappeared with the bag of money which was believed to be containing millions of shillings," Namaye said.
Police said the victims had collected the money from their rice project and were going to bank it the following day. Namaye said the assailants got away on a bodaboda motorcycle.
Police suspect the victims and the killers had a long running conflict over the rice project and it is highly likely that the conflict triggered the murder. Namaye also said that they were holding Jalandhn and a former employee of the rice project, Quinto Olwoch, 40.
"Olwoch was arrested in connection with this murder since they have been close friends with Jalandhn and yet he left the rice project under bad circumstances. So, we highly suspect that Jalandhn and Olwoch might have connived with thugs to rob the money and kill the directors of this project to avoid suspicions," she said.
Srivinas is now admitted at St. Francis Missionary Clinic, Nakasongola.
very high education. We can call Obote all bad names we have, but the bottom line remains that he got more scholarships for Buganda than all previous Uganda leaders combined. That includes Sir Edward Mutesa, President Lule, President Binayisa, up to and into Ssabasajja Mutebi. Who all happen to be Baganda leaders." Mulindwa
