{UAH} The progressive 'super crowds' that never win elections in Uganda
1.I'm sure that Besigye is encouraged by the large crowds that are turning out for his rallies, but so far, they've remained just that- 'crowds', nothing else. The police, however, haven't been caught off guard by them, to the disappointment of many.
Besigye and his people are still pushing for electoral reforms and complaining about the Electoral Commission, and I think all opposition parties should form a grass-roots organization in response to election irregularities and problems, with a mandate to specifically organize demonstrations all over the country alongside rallies.
2.Mbabazi's campaign is making a special effort to reach the millions who failed to vote in 2006 and 2011 with particular emphasis on young voters and professionals. It is therefore not surprising that groups such as the Ugandans At Heart(UAH) and other Facebook groups have become the principal tool for strategic communication and mobilization of protest activism. UAH has also got enough activists on its e-mail list that reach in almost all corners of the world. My only major advise to Mr.Mbabazi up this point is to find a way of keeping his family members in the background of his campaigns. It was a big blunder for him to introduce his daughter to the people that were waiting for him on his nomination day at Nakivubo. Yes, its always nice to see a beauty such as Rachael Mbabazi but I'm sure that made a lot of people uncomfortable! I really hope it doesn't happen again! By the way, how is Mrs.Mbabazi doing, health-wise?
3. Museveni's rallies are built on the belief that free lunch is available to anyone who will work for it. NTV showed bikers at Kasana football ground as part of the theatrics to attract people to the rallies before the president arrived, but unfortunately for them, there were less spectators. I don't know how Besigye does it to get people to love him that much. His crowd in Rukungiri was definitely bigger than that of Museveni in Luwero and Mbabazi's in Masaka. I don't know what Museveni is thinking but I don't think he cares that much. He pretty much knows that crowds don't win elections in Uganda but rigging does. So, he is very comfortable till something extra ordinary happen!
