{UAH} Oddonga Otto is a very dishonest man!
Oddonga Otto is a very dishonest man!
I have both heard and read his (Otto) recent outrages in mainstream and social media in which he maliciously attacked the FDC party President over Shadow cabinet appointments which ordinarily are made by the LoP.
Among the many baseless issues he is raising, he is wondering how Hon Nandala Mafabi, Hon E.Okupa and himself could miss out on the list (shadow cabinet). Of course, Hon.Nandala has not complained. He once served as the LoP (highest office in opposition ranks in parliament), He chaired the PAC twice,He is the SG of FDC, Indeed serving in lower offices would be demeaning himself.
Before I deviate, let me concentrate on the centrepiece of this thesis -the dishonesty of Oddonga Otto who, among many issues, is accusing the party President for;choosing 'young' leaders, legitimising President Museveni, neglecting those who participated in walk to work, leaving UPC out of the shadow cabinet et al.
He (Otto), of all the MPs, moved a motion on floor of parliament to second a man appointed by and to serve with Gen.Museveni. On the same day, he asked president Museveni to forgive H.E Dr.Besigye . Wasn't this betrayal of Dr.KB and acceptance of Museveni's rule?, What offence did Dr.KB commit that necessitates Museveni's forgiveness?. He is arguably one of the most controversial party parliamentarians who has ordained himself as an "infallible leader" and has been at odds with all hitherto opposition leadership at parliament . He declared his region a no-go zone for any presidential candidate including Dr.KB (His party's flag bearer) in addition to the numerous ills and mischiefs that have characterised his leadership. Where does he derive the moral authority to judge other leaders?.If his assertions and accusations are genuine, why is he dying to be on the same shadow cabinet?
On appointing a young cabinet and leaving out "seniors" like him. The growth and sustainability of any political party are a function of its senior leaders democratically accepting young guards to take over from them. The role of "senior" party leaders like Otto (as he claims) now can include but not be limited to nurturing the new and young leaders. We cannot give what we don't have. We criticise Mr.Museveni for overstaying yet we are also struggling to champion the same culture in FDC.
It is utterly false that some leaders were, knowingly or unknowingly, left out based on who they support in the party. I may not be able to point out all MPs,who never supported MM but are serving in big portfolios in the shadow cabinet but let me quickly mention Hon.Kaginda now deputy chief opposition whip, Hon.Wamanga now delegate to ACP/EU ,Hon.Mwijukye now a delegate to IPU and others. When its not him (Otto),then there's none.
It was again prudent for the LoP to ignore UPC which is now formalising their "marriage" with NRM, in the shadow cabinet. UPC has already instituted a committee to bargain with M7 according to the presser they held yesterday.
FDC has thrived because of the tolerance and humility of the current party president, without whom the party would be in fragments. He is a springboard that has enabled the party to maintain a national characteristic amidst all the turbulences . Mugisha Muntu has won the battles by ignoring those who insult him (it takes two to fight,if one withdraws then there is no fight).
The onus is on all party leaders to change the political culture in the country.
